Self-calibrating optical galaxy cluster selection bias using cluster, galaxy, and shear cross-correlations

چکیده

The clustering signals of galaxy clusters are known to be powerful tools for self-calibrating the mass-observable relation and complementary cluster abundance lensing. In this work, we explore possibility combining three correlation functions -- lensing, cluster-galaxy cross-correlation function, auto-correlation function self-calibrate optical selection bias, boosted lensing in a richness-selected sample mainly caused by projection effects. We develop mock catalogues redMaGiC-like galaxies redMaPPer-like applying Halo Occupation Distribution (HOD) models N-body simulations using counts-in-cylinders around massive haloes as richness proxy. addition previously small-scale boost projected functions, find that effects also significantly 3D out scales 100 $h^{-1} \mathrm{Mpc}$. perform likelihood analysis assuming survey conditions similar Dark Energy Survey (DES) show bias can self-consistently constrained at 10% level. discuss strategies approach real data. expect expanding smaller deeper data would further improve constraints on bias.

The APM cluster - galaxy cross - correlation function : Constraints on Ω and galaxy bias

We estimate the cluster-galaxy cross-correlation function (ξcg), from the APM galaxy and galaxy cluster surveys. We obtain estimates both in real space from the inversion of projected statistics and in redshift space using the galaxy and cluster redshift samples. The amplitude of ξcg is found to be almost independent of cluster richness. At large separations, r ∼> 5 h Mpc ( h = H0/100km s , whe...

Gravitationaìconvergence' and Galaxy Cluster Masses

Two colour photometry of the cluster A1689 reveals a `relative magniication-bias' between lensed blue and red background galaxies, arising from a dependence of the faint galaxy count-slope on colour. The colour distribution is skewed blueward of the far eld, allowing us to measure the cluster magniication and to understand the notorious blueness of large arcs. We show that the magniication info...

Redshift Evolution of Galaxy Cluster

The number of rich galaxy clusters per unit volume is a strong function of , the cosmological density parameter, and 8 , the linear extrapolation to z = 0 of the density contrast in 8h ?1 Mpc spheres. The CNOC cluster redshift survey provides a sample of clusters whose average mass prooles are accurately known, which enables a secure association between cluster numbers and the ltered density pe...

Optical Galaxy Selection

Our view of the properties of galaxies is strongly affected by the way in which we survey for them. I discuss some aspects of selection effects and methods to compensate for them. One result is an estimate of the surface brightness distribution. I believe this is progress, but considerable uncertainty remains. A basic goal of galaxy research is to identify and characterize the galaxy population...

Diffuse Optical Light in Galaxy Clusters Ii: Correlations with Cluster Properties

We have measured the flux, profile, color, and substructure in the diffuse intracluster light (ICL) in a sample of ten galaxy clusters with a range of mass, morphology, redshift, and density. Deep, widefield observations for this project were made in two bands at the one meter Swope and 2.5 meter du Pont telescope at Las Campanas Observatory. Careful attention in reduction and analysis was paid...
